Certified air scrubbers in Belgium – the Money Makers
Belgian agricultural sector
Over the last year, we have received more and more requests regarding air scrubbers and climate systems from the Belgian agricultural sector. At the moment many permits are on hold because the government is rewriting the legislation on CO2 reduction, and therefore also on air scrubbers. We believe there is an increased interest in certified air scrubbers and official standards, as many of the questions we are asked are about this. Inno+ have been developing air scrubber technology for 20 years and most of our product lines are tested under the DLG, BWL or VERA certification rules. This makes our customers confident that our technology will perform in the field, where it is important they meet the demands put on them.
We are mainly active in the pig, poultry and calves markets. But also Insects and Diary. In these sectors in Belgium, we also see farmers looking for concepts and solution to address many challenges. The fact we offer energy recovery alongside our air scrubbing, has become of extra interest to these entrepreneurs. Together with our three dealers, Inno+ with these partners can offer a total concept in each specific market that ranges from air scrubbers, climate concepts to a complete turnkey solution.
Why certified air scrubbers?
Certified air scrubbers and maintaining standards are a crucial part of the farmer’s future. It will be important which systems they apply in their stables in order to provide guarantees on emission management. Unproven technology always has the risk of letting you down at some point. As we have experienced in the Netherlands, the rules become stricter every year. This means the right choice for a solid and reliable air scrubber to create a ‘license to produce’ is critical. Cutting corners as many found out, can be costly.

‘The best available techniques’
The best available techniques or BAT is a document that provides useful information to farmers on how they can manage their farms. Section 4 focusses on ‘End-of-pipe measures for the reduction of emissions to air from housing’ – this is regarded by many as the protocol we should follow. Heat recovery
Air scrubbers cost money to purchase and maintain. Whilst society and the lawmakers demand answers to environmental challenges and are not prepared to pay for it, then the cost unfortunately sits with farmer. Hopefully one day this will change and farmers will either be subsidised for doing the right thing or be paid a premium by their customers for environmentally friendly meat. At Inno+, we have thought this through and come up with one answer to the problem. Why not use the energy from the air scrubber to save on heating costs and provide optimal air quality before it enters the stable, therefore giving the animals a comfortable place to live. And we all know the benefits of this. In this way, we change the air scrubber from a money-spender to money-makers. All energy produced by the animals is stored in the air scrubber, and then reused to heat the stables. This will reduce the gas consumption and increase production yield. We typically see a Return on investment of about 4.5 year’s average.
