Vevar achieves higher yields thanks to heat recovery
The success story of Van der Velden Pigs and Inno+
In the past, Maarten van der Velden, owner of breeding sow farm Veva, was mainly busy coordinating the construction of a new piglet shed and growing his farm in animal numbers. Over five years ago, the turnaround came and the international pig farmer decided to focus more and more on sustainability: solar panels, heat recovery and manure processing. During the construction of the new piglet house, it was therefore decided to take the step towards heat recovery. Together with Inno+, the Asten-Heusden-based pig farmer came to the conclusion that implementing an air scrubber and heat pump could be very interesting for his business. Thanks to the use of underfloor heating, Van der Velden can offer the piglets a pleasant temperature all year round, even without the use of ambient heating or gas.
Advantages of the Triple EEE system
- Energy savings: Reusing heat results in lower energy costs and a smaller carbon footprint.
- Environmental friendliness: Reduction of emissions and treatment of waste materials provide a cleaner environment.
- Improved air quality: Filtering outgoing air leads to a healthier environment for animals and employees.
- Regulatory compliance: The system complies with strict emissions and environmental regulations, which prevents fines.
- Sustainable image: Implementation of the system promotes a sustainable image and strengthens customer relationships.
Operation of the Triple EEE system
- Energy recovery: The system reuses heat from the barn for heating and other purposes, saving significant energy.
- Emission Reduction: Advanced filtration removes pollutants and odors from outgoing air, resulting in reduced harmful emissions.
After several successful years, Maarten van der Velden decided to build two new pig houses again in 2021 and 2022; this was done in exactly the same way as was rolled out at the time in cooperation with Inno+.
